Kaamatan Cuisines in Tambunan, Sabah.

Sharing some of the food shared during a Kaamatan Celebration in my Village.   1. Pungit + Kuyoh   So, basically most of the names of the food in this post are in Dusun language.   So, let us talk about first dish. The main ingredient in this 'Pungit + Kuyoh' dish is bats. yeah like BATMAN but without the MAN. Kuyoh is pumpkin shoots. I've never tried eating bats, I'm just not brave enough yet but from what I heard , It’s tasty. *The bats will be stir-fried for while and then you add pumpkin shoots, some water, seasoning, wait for a while and then ready to be eaten.    2.Langgangon    Langgangon  a type of chili that can be found mostly in Sabah. If you go to tamu (traditional market) you can see a lot of people selling langgangon. Some people would prefer to grow their own langgangon. They are in white color and are one of the favorites of Sabahan. The spiciness varies, some would be ve...

How to pray the Divine Mercy

If you wonder how to pray The Divine Mercy Prayer, you can just follow the instruction in the picture below.

Why I wear veil/headcovering during mass

I was recently exposed to this.  Wearing a veil or a head covering to cover your head, during mass.  For the first few weeks, I felt uneasy wearing it because I was afraid people would look at me and judge me saying i was trying to show off.  But my heart kept saying,  "you are glorifying God, you should do everything that will glorify Him".. Every time when I wear my veil, I would have such struggle.   One day, I went to Sacred Heart Cathedral, i was in a dilemma to wear my veil or not because i saw there were only two people wearing it.  In my hometown, more women answered the call to wear veils to mass.  And I decided to just wear it. I prayed  " Lord, I am not sure if this really makes you happy or not. If it does not, tell me so that i will stop . And if it does , tell me also so that I will not continue wearing this. "  (I wore my veil after the First Reading) .  And then, before the song...

How to cook Kiu Nyuk (pork with yams)?

Kiu Nyuk is a traditional Hakka dish.  It is one of the many dishes that I learned from my father. I  adapted his recipe to suit my liking. Ingredients  1. Two big yams 2. 1KG of pork belly 3. preserved bean curd 4. 5 teaspoons of cumin powder    5. 1 teaspoons of Ajinomoto      6.2 teaspoons of salt    7.1 cup of water    8.Cooking oil  Steps  1. Peel the skin and slice them .     The thickness of the yam should be around 1.5 cm . These were are bit thin; these would taste dry epecially after frying 2.Slice your pork into slices as thick as your yam. 3. Heat the cooking oil (enough for frying the yams and the pork) 4.  Deep-fry the yams , then the pork. 5. In a separate bowl, mix preserved bean curds, cumin powder , salt and ajinomoto. leave it for 5 minutes.Add some water, the mixture should be like a thin paste. 6. Coat the fried ingredients w...

Fascinating 😃 Hong Kong 2015, Day 3 n 4

Day three should be considered our final stay with full blasts energy because the next day we had to fly back at 10 in the morning. We went to Salisbury Garden first after we checked out from our hotel. we sat there looked at people and we planned our day. Good gracious I actually had a friend in Hong Kong but I forgot about her. She contacted me after she saw my FB posts about Hong Kong. She suggested a park in Nam Cheong.  We headed to Hong Kong's Avenue of Comic Stars. whoaa! was my feeling. once when i was small and cute, i love comics especially those by Tony Wong. N ot a really massive place but it was interesting. We then headed to a maze garden, It was quite cool though not much challenging for me. Walking around carrying 10 kilos was crazy.   After a long day of walk, we headed to Nam Cheong Park, we asked the locals but none gave us directions cause they said they never heard of such park in Nam Cheong. We wandered and we were lost in a park,a re...
